Description

Completing the Wexler-sourced doubled die reverse census for the 1994 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, WDDR-008 is designated Wexler Variety ID 1994 1¢ WDDR-008 and cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-010. A strong Class IV spread to the west resulted in extra Memorial columns in the 10th and 11th Memorial bays — the same general doubling profile shared by WDDR-006 and WDDR-007, though each variety represents a different die with its own unique marker set. The die markers distinguish WDDR-008 from its Class IV siblings. On the obverse, a small die gouge can be found below the 1 in the date, and a die gouge appears above the E in LIBERTY. On the reverse, a short vertical die scratch sits to the right of the N in UNITED, and a small die gouge appears to the right of the bottom of the 2nd A in AMERICA. The date-area obverse gouge below the 1 and the LIBERTY-area gouge above the E provide a two-point obverse identification system, while the reverse markers near UNITED and AMERICA confirm the die pair. Eight Wexler-cataloged doubled die reverses for the 1994-P cent underscore the Philadelphia Mint's prolific die output for this date.
