Description
The 1992 (W) XXV Olympiad Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a commemorative dollar struck at the West Point Mint. With a mintage of 27,732, this is a scarce commemorative issue. The gold coin in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics program, this $5 piece captures the explosive energy of an Olympic sprinter. The obverse features an Olympic sprinter running with a vertically hanging American flag superimposed behind, while the reverse displays a heraldic-style eagle with wings spread, holding the Olympic rings, with a shield on its breast. Designed by James Sharpe, T. James Ferrell/James Pede. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9924. The 1992 Olympic $5 gold's bold sprinter design is among the most dynamic of the modern commemorative gold issues.
