Description
Part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series, the 1992 (D) XXV Olympiad (Barcelona) Commemorative Dollar is a dollar from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 187,552 examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Auction record: $633 MS70 01-09-2008 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9922.
