Description

The 1993 (W) World War II 50th Anniversary Proof Dollar is a proof commemorative dollar struck at the West Point Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 342,041 examples. Authorized as part of a five-year program (1991-1995) commemorating the 50th anniversary of World War II, this dollar depicts the D-Day invasion at Normandy. The obverse features an American soldier advancing on Normandy beach during D-Day, with servicemen in trenches and the dual dates 1991-1995, while the reverse displays the shoulder sleeve insignia of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) with Eisenhower's quote to the troops before D-Day. Designed by Thomas D. Rogers. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9677. The WWII dollar's powerful D-Day imagery and Eisenhower quote make it one of the most emotionally resonant designs in the modern commemorative series.
