The 1991 (S) Proof Mount Rushmore Dollar is a proof commemorative dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. Total mintage reached 738,419. Authorized in 1991 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the completion of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota, this dollar was part of a three-coin program. The obverse features the Mount Rushmore National Memorial carving of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln, while the reverse displays the Great Seal of the United States with the sun's rays emanating from behind, and an outline map of the United States below with a star marking Mount Rushmore's location. Designed by John M. Mercanti/Robert Lamb and William Cousins. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9645.
