1991 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003
Error
Description
Displaying doubling on the lower left side of the 7th Memorial column, positioned to the right of the statue's lower legs, WDDR-003 of the 1991 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent concentrates its visible effects in the architectural heart of the reverse design. The location of this doubling on the inner columns — near the seated Lincoln figure — suggests a hubbing misalignment that produced its most detectable displacement in the central portion of the die rather than at the periphery, which would be more typical of a rotational class. The die carries several distinctive markers: a gouge south of BE in LIBERTY on the obverse, a strong gouge to the left of U in TRUST, and a gouge positioned above and to the left of the second 9 in the date. On the reverse, a vertical gouge appears at the top of the 9th bay of the Memorial. This combination of obverse and reverse markers ensures reliable attribution even on circulated specimens where the doubling itself may be less distinct. Struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets composed of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper, weighing 2.5 grams and measuring 19mm. Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge can be found south of the BE in LIBERTY. A strong die gouge can be found to the left of the bottom of the U in TRUST. A die gouge can be found above the left side of the 2nd 9 in the date. Reverse: A vertical die gouge can be found at the top of the 9th bay.
