Description

Leading the nine cataloged doubled die reverses for the 1991 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, WDDR-001 is classified as a Class V clockwise spread from a pivot point near the rim at approximately the 11 o'clock position. This rotational doubling produces visible spreading on RICA of AMERICA, the lower right section of the Lincoln Memorial, the FG designer's initials, and ONE CENT — all design elements positioned away from the 11 o'clock pivot where the angular displacement is greatest. Cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-001, this variety benefits from independent confirmation through Billy G. Crawford's attribution system. Die markers that identify this specific die include a die scratch passing through the lower portion of the A in STATES, gouges at the rim above the M in AMERICA, and a gouge positioned under the C in AMERICA. These reverse-side markers are essential for separating WDDR-001 from the eight other doubled die reverses cataloged for the date, several of which affect overlapping areas of the design. Struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets composed of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper, weighing 2.5 grams and measuring 19mm. Two short die gouges can be found at the rim above the upper left M in AMERICA with another to the right of those two. A short die gouge can be found under the C in AMERICA.
