1990 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007
Error
Description
Triple cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-002, Coppercoins 1990P-1DR-003, and Wexler WDDR-007, this 1990 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent doubled die reverse benefits from documentation in three independent attribution systems — an unusual depth of cataloging that reflects the variety's visibility and collectibility. The primary diagnostic feature is a strong spread to the south visible on the Memorial floor in bays two and three, with slight extension into the left side of the fourth bay. Southward spread on the Memorial floor manifests as a secondary impression of the horizontal floor lines displaced downward from their primary position, creating a shadow effect beneath the intended floor detail. This directional spread indicates the hub shifted toward the six o'clock position between hubbing impressions, producing maximum displacement at the floor level while elements closer to the hub's center of rotation show less pronounced effects. Die pitting inside the zero of the date on the obverse provides a convenient attribution marker — a distinctive texture visible under magnification that confirms the die pairing. The convergence of three independent catalog systems on a single variety validates its significance within the 1990-P doubled die reverse census. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint on a copper-plated zinc planchet (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm diameter. A small die gouge can be found south of the zero. A small die gouge can be found on the lower bust NE of the B in VDB. Reverse: A light die scratch runs ENE from the right end of the lower horizontal crossbar of the F in OF.
