1984 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007
ErrorDescription
On the subtler end of the doubling spectrum for 1984 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent reverse dies, Wexler's 1984 1-cent WDDR-007 exhibits close spread towards center on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the designer's initials. Close spread — as opposed to strong or medium — indicates the secondary hub impression lies very near the primary, producing modest thickening that requires careful examination under magnification. The denomination ONE CENT is notably absent, suggesting the displacement vector favored the upper and peripheral legends over the central denomination. Obverse die markers include a small gouge south of the E in LIBERTY and numerous southwest-to-northeast scratches on both sides of Lincoln's bust. No significant reverse die markers have been noted beyond the doubling itself. Collectors may notice the die markers before identifying the doubling — a reminder that die markers and doubled die features serve complementary diagnostic roles. No known cross references.
