1984 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006
ErrorDescription
Sharing a similar doubling profile to WDDR-005 but identifiable through distinct die markers, Wexler's 1984 1-cent WDDR-006 displays spread towards center on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE CENT, and the designer's initials on the Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, with the doubling strongest on ONE CENT. When multiple doubled die varieties from the same date exhibit nearly identical doubling distributions, the die markers become the critical diagnostics for separating one variety from another. For WDDR-006, the obverse die carries a small gouge below the left horizontal bar of the 4 in the date — a precise, easily located marker that immediately distinguishes this die pair from its counterparts. On the reverse, a gouge appears to the right of the center T in CENT, positioned near the zone of strongest doubling and therefore a feature likely to be noticed during the same examination that reveals the doubled die itself. Designated Wexler 1984 1-cent WDDR-006, with no known cross references to other attribution systems. Struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets weighing 2.5 grams from a production run exceeding 8.15 billion cents in 1984.
