Description
Numbered as the first doubled die reverse for the 1984 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, DDR-001 exhibits light spread and extra thickness on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Doubled die reverses form through the same hubbing mechanism as their obverse counterparts — a secondary hub impression slightly offset from the primary — but apply to the reverse die, affecting the Memorial design, legends, and denomination. On DDR-001, the doubling concentrates on the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA legend across the upper reverse, where the secondary impression adds perceptible thickening to the letter strokes. Light spread combined with extra thickness indicates the hub offset was modest: enough to widen the letters beyond normal tolerances but insufficient to create fully separated secondary outlines. Die markers UVC-2382 and DMR-005 confirm the specific reverse die. Struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams from the 1984 production of over 8.15 billion cents.
