Description
The 1977 Eisenhower Dollar was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a dollar in the Eisenhower Dollars 1971-1978 series. With a mintage of 12.6 million, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Dwight D. Eisenhower facing left and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon with an olive branch in its talons, commemorating the Apollo 11 lunar landing. Return to the standard eagle-on-moon reverse after the Bicentennial. Only clad business strikes and proofs — no silver collector versions. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $9 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 22.7 grams, 38.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7423.
