Description
Swoger catalog number D1974-2c. This bronze medal was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia as part of the John Adams Bicentennial series within the broader American Revolution Bicentennial program. John Adams of Massachusetts was a leading advocate for independence in the Continental Congress, helped draft the Declaration of Independence alongside Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, served as the first Vice President under George Washington, and became the second President of the United States in 1797. His tireless diplomatic efforts in France and the Netherlands secured critical foreign support for the American cause during the Revolution. The Swoger catalog (D-series), compiled by Tom Swoger, documents modern U.S. Mint commemorative medals from 1956 onward. This bronze medal is the base-metal issue in the D1974-2 Adams bicentennial series.
