1971 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Among the strongest doubled die reverses in the Washington Quarter series, this 1971 WDDR-001 displays a very strong Class I (Rotated Hub) counterclockwise spread affecting USA, QUARTER DOLLAR, EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM), and the wreath. Class I doubling from rotational hub displacement creates spread that increases with distance from the center of rotation. Multiple attribution systems recognize this coin: CONECA catalogs it as 1-R-I, and the Cherrypickers' Guide lists it as FS-25-1971-801 (027.7), confirming its status as a significant cherrypicking target. Obverse die markers include a die scratch running northwest from Washington's lips. On the reverse, a die gouge runs north from the leaf to the right of the eagle's tail feathers.
