1971-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003
Error
Description
A dual variety pairing DDR-003 with DDO-010 on the same die pair makes this 1971-D Kennedy Half Dollar especially significant — collectors can observe hub doubling on both sides of a single coin. The reverse displays strong extra thickness on HALF DOLLAR, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, all stars in the circle, arrows, designer's initials, clouds, and stars between the rays, an exceptionally broad spread affecting nearly every reverse element. Die markers UVC-401 and DMR-014 anchor the reverse attribution, while the obverse is listed as DDO-010 with ODV-003 designation. Three die stages are documented: Stage A at Early Die State remains unconfirmed, Stage B at Mid Die State confirms both DDR-003 and DDO-010, and Stage C at Late Die State is unconfirmed. The STRONG extra thickness classification combined with dual-variety status elevates this die pair above typical single-side doubled dies. Kennedy Half Dollars from 1971-D were struck in copper-nickel clad composition adopted after the 40% silver run ended with 1970-D, and Denver's substantial production created multiple opportunities for hub doubling across numerous die pairs.
