Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1966 Jefferson Nickel is part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 156.2 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 99% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Designer Felix Schlag's initials "FS" were added below the bust, correcting a long-standing omission. No mint marks this year. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4078.
