Description
The 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Kennedy Half Dollars Silver 1964 to Date collection. The U.S. Mint produced 273.3 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 47% of the year's production. The obverse features John F. Kennedy facing left, based on the presidential medal by Gilroy Roberts and the reverse displays the Presidential Seal β a heraldic eagle with shield, olive branch, and arrows. Rushed into production weeks after President Kennedy's assassination. Both Philadelphia and Denver struck massive quantities that were immediately hoarded. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $37 to $66 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 31 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6706.
