Description

VarietyVista lists DDR-002 on the 1962 Washington Silver Quarter with die markers UVC-1011 and DMR-011, documenting a light spread on QUARTER DOLLAR that increases slightly from left to right, accompanied by doubling on both lower stems of the heraldic eagle's olive branch and arrows. The left-to-right spread gradient reveals the geometry of the hub-to-die misalignment: the doubling class indicates a lateral shift or slight pivot that produced minimal displacement on the left side of the inscription and progressively greater offset toward the right, meaning the Q of QUARTER shows the least separation while the R at the end of DOLLAR exhibits the most visible secondary image. The involvement of both lower stems adds a second diagnostic zone below the main inscription, where the botanical elements' fine detail makes even light doubling easier to detect than on the broader letter strokes. Three die stages have been documented for this pairing. Stage A places both the reverse and obverse in Early Die State, when the die surfaces are freshest and the doubling is rendered most crisply before accumulated striking cycles begin to erode fine detail. Stage B transitions both dies to Mid Die State with developing wear patterns.
