Description

Documented by Brian A. Ribar and cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 1962-D WDDR-003, this doubled die reverse variety appears on the 1962 Denver Jefferson Nickel. The doubling is a Class II Distorted Hub Doubling characterized by a progressive spread that increases in intensity from left to right across the reverse inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA — an asymmetric distortion pattern in which the leftmost letters show minimal secondary impression while the rightmost letters carry the most visible extra thickness, consistent with a pivoting hub motion during die manufacture that amplified the misalignment as the arc of the inscription extended further from the pivot axis.
