1961 Proof Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-011
ErrorDescription
Displaying a close counterclockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 11:00, the 1961 Proof Lincoln Memorial Cent WDDR-011 is a Class V rotated hub doubling variety whose effects register on UNITED, ONE CENT, the designer's initials FG, and AMERICA. The 11:00 pivot location — corresponding to the upper-right area of the die face — generates maximum displacement on design elements positioned farthest from the fulcrum, which in this case includes much of the lower and left portions of the reverse. This geometric relationship explains the variety's broad coverage across four separate inscription groups: the rotational arc sweeps through a wide swath of the reverse, catching letters and monogram elements at varying distances from the pivot. The close nature of the spread requires moderate magnification to resolve, typically 7x or above, with the most visible doubling appearing on the elements most distant from the 11:00 fulcrum point. No significant obverse die markers have been recorded, but the reverse carries a small die gouge to the right of the second A in AMERICA, serving as a confirmation diagnostic positioned within one of the doubling zones. The CCW rotation from 11:00 provides a distinctive mechanical fingerprint that differentiates WDDR-011 from other rotational DDR varieties in the 1961 Proof family, such as WDDR-005, which rotates CCW from a 9:00 pivot, and collectors can use the pivot-point geometry to narrow their attribution before examining the die marker.
