1960 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004
Error
Description
Paired with WDDO-004 on the same die marriage, the 1960 Proof Franklin Half Dollar WDDR-004 offers collectors the opportunity to find both obverse and reverse doubling on a single coin. Carrying the Wexler Variety designation 1960 50 cent Proof WDDR-004, the obverse component shows a very close spread toward the center on IN GOD, with a short vertical die gouge to the right of the top of the R in LIBERTY. The reverse carries a small vertical die gouge inside the lower N in UNITED. This dual-variety die marriage means that a single specimen can be attributed under two separate Wexler listings simultaneously, increasing its significance for variety collectors. The Franklin Half Dollar series, produced from 1948 through 1963, offers fewer proof doubled die varieties than its successor the Kennedy Half, making confirmed examples like WDDR-004 particularly noteworthy.
