1960 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006
ErrorDescription
Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1960 1¢ WDDR-006, this doubled die reverse variety on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Large Date regular strike shares the same reverse doubling characteristics as its Small Date counterpart but resides under the earlier hub type used during the first phase of Philadelphia's 1960 cent production. A very close spread is visible on the lower part of the letters in ONE CENT, where the secondary hub impression displaced the denomination text just enough to create a detectable shadow along the lower strokes. Identifying this variety demands patient examination under magnification, as the spread does not extend to the upper portions of the letters or to other reverse design elements. On the obverse, several die scratches run south-southeast from the underside of the chin, with other die scratches distributed throughout the obverse field — markers that help confirm the specific die pairing. The reverse carries a small die gouge to the left of the bottom of the N in CENT, positioned conveniently near the zone of visible doubling and serving as an efficient attribution shortcut for experienced variety collectors. No other cross-references have been assigned beyond the Wexler listing, and collectors building a comprehensive 1960 DDR set will want both the Large Date and Small Date instances of WDDR-006 to represent the full range of hub subtypes.
