Exhibiting Class II distorted hub doubling — very close spread confined to AMERICA on the Monticello reverse — this twentieth documented DDR for the 1960 Denver Mint Jefferson Nickel demonstrates the subtle but identifiable characteristics of hub distortion. Class II doubling occurs when the hub itself carries a slight distortion, transferring a spread image to every die it impresses, unlike Class I doubling where each die receives a unique misalignment. A slanted die scratch above the first A of AMERICA, a die gouge below the second U of UNUM, and a die scratch to the right of the second S of STATES serve as reverse die markers.
