Attributed by Brian A. Ribar, this 1960-D Jefferson Nickel WDDR-013 is a Class II (Distorted Hub Doubling) variety with close doubling visible on UNUM and AMERICA on the reverse. Class II doubling results from a distorted hub impressing into the working die, creating displacement that varies in direction and intensity across different zones of the design. The obverse carries a die gouge below Jefferson's chin, while the reverse shows a slanted die scratch through the lower portion of the P in PLURIBUS and a scratch inside the second O of MONTICELLO — architectural and lettering details that provide reliable attribution markers. The Denver Mint 1960-D Jefferson Nickel was produced in large quantities, but specific die pairs carrying Class II hub doubling remain collectible for variety specialists.
