1959 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006
Error
Description
The 1959 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006 is a doubled die variety on the Philadelphia Roosevelt Dime displaying strong extra thickness on all outer lettering and design elements. The "strong" classification and comprehensive scope — affecting all peripheral legends and design features — indicate a substantial hub doubling event where the secondary impression displaced the entire outer ring of reverse detail. This broad-coverage pattern is characteristic of a hub that shifted uniformly, creating widened strokes across UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the torch, olive branch, and oak branch simultaneously. Die progression data cataloged under UVC-324 and DMR-011 documents three stages. Stage A places both reverse and obverse at Early-to-Mid Die State, providing collectors with the clearest impressions of the strong doubling before die wear softens the secondary image. Stage B at Mid Die State and Stage C at Late Die State remain unconfirmed, suggesting limited specimens have been studied from later in the die's life. The 1959 Philadelphia Roosevelt Dime was struck in 90% silver, the standard composition before the 1965 transition to copper-nickel clad.
