1959 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-014
ErrorDescription
Attributed by Brian A. Ribar and designated WDDR-014 Proof, this 1959 Jefferson nickel shows Class II (Distorted Hub Doubling) with a close spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and UNUM. As a proof issue, the mirrored fields provide an ideal canvas for observing the subtle displacement of legend elements. The obverse carries no noted die markers. On the reverse, a die gouge above the CA of AMERICA anchors the attribution, supported by a die dot to the right of the small right window and a die scratch to the lower left of the small left window. The trio of reverse markers—spanning the upper legend and both window areas—gives collectors multiple checkpoints for confident identification. Among the 1959 proof Jefferson doubled die reverses, WDDR-014 rounds out a surprisingly active proof die family for the date.
