1959 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-012
ErrorDescription
Designated WDDR-012, this 1959 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent exhibits a close spread towards the center on the designer's initials, accompanied by light extra thickness on USA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE CENT. First-year Memorial reverse doubled dies hold particular significance for variety specialists, and this entry rewards patient searching with its subtle but confirmable doubling. On the obverse, a die scratch running southwest to northeast below the front of the chin provides a key diagnostic, while a die crack runs down the back of the bust and exits to the rim at approximately 7:00. The reverse is rich with attribution aids: a small die gouge northeast of the designer's initials, numerous die scratches running mostly southwest to northeast through E PLURIBUS UNUM, and additional scattered die scratches throughout the reverse field. These extensive reverse die markers make WDDR-012 one of the more readily identifiable doubled die reverses among 1959 cent varieties.
