Description
With doubling visible on ONE CENT, USA, the designer's initials, and slightly on E PLURIBUS UNUM, WDDR-005 concentrates its strongest spread on the lower half of the 1959 Memorial cent reverse. This variety carries the Wexler designation 1959 1c WDDR-005, and no cross-references to other major attribution services have been established. The concentration of the spread on the lower reverse is consistent with a hub doubling event in which the pivot point or axis of misalignment was positioned toward the upper portion of the die, causing the greatest displacement near the bottom. Multiple die states have been documented, tracing the evolution of die markers across the production run. Collectors searching for this variety should prioritize the lower reverse inscriptions and the FG initials when screening candidates, as the spread on EPU is described as slight and may be difficult to detect without higher magnification or comparison to a known example.
