1959 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-010
ErrorDescription
Cross-referenced as CONECA 12-R-II-C, this 1959 proof Jefferson nickel WDDR-010 delivers one of the more visually striking Class II (Distorted Hub Doubling) effects in the series. A pronounced spread shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with tripling visible on the lower portion of the M of AMERICA—an uncommon feature that indicates multiple hubbing impressions rather than the typical single re-entry. The obverse carries no noted die markers, directing all attribution work to the reverse, where slanted parallel die scratches inside the left arch serve as the confirming diagnostic. The tripling on the M elevates this variety above many of its single-doubled counterparts, offering a more complex and visually engaging example of the hubbing process gone awry. The CONECA cross-reference provides collectors with an additional attribution pathway beyond the Wexler system.
