1958 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista, the 1958 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001 on the Franklin Half Dollar exhibits a medium spread on the eagle with extra thickness visible on the lettering STATES OF AMERICA. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this 90% silver half dollar weighs 12.50 grams and measures 30.6 mm in diameter. John R. Sinnock designed the obverse portrait of Benjamin Franklin and the reverse Liberty Bell flanked by a small eagle, a design produced from 1948 through 1963 before being replaced by the Kennedy Half Dollar. Die markers include VarietyVista codes UVC-121 and DMR-005, with three documented die states: Stage A shows both reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B reveals the eagle missing some inner wing feathers due to abrasion with the obverse progressing to Mid Die State, and Stage C remains unconfirmed at Mid Die State.
