Description

Proof Lincoln Wheat Cent variety, the 1956 DDR-002 is cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1874/DMR-011. Three die stages provide a deterioration progression: Stage A in Early Die State exhibits a die gouge between NI of UNITED, Stage B in Mid Die State shows the intermediate condition, and Stage C in Late Die State represents the most worn state. The reverse displays medium spread on OF AMERICA with lighter doubling on E PLURIBUS UNUM and wheat ears, indicating a hub displacement that most strongly affected the lower-right lettering while producing subtler effects elsewhere. The Stage A die gouge between NI serves as a fixed die marker constant across all stages. Struck at Philadelphia as part of 1956 proof set production on bronze planchets, this variety dates to the penultimate year of the Wheat Cent design.
