1955 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

While 1955 is best known for the famous DDO-001, the most celebrated doubled die in all of United States numismatics, this DDR-001 represents the first cataloged doubled die reverse for the same date. Cataloged by VarietyVista with reference codes UVC-1850 and DMR-013, the reverse exhibits extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM and both wheat ears, with the strongest separation visible on the left side. Die stage analysis places Stage A with both the reverse and obverse in early die state, while Stages B and C at mid-die state and late die state remain unconfirmed. Although the reverse doubled die lacks the dramatic visual impact of its obverse counterpart, the DDR-001 designation marks it as the primary reverse hub doubling variety for this historically significant date. The extra thickness across both wheat ears, particularly concentrated on the left side, provides the key diagnostic feature for attribution under magnification.
