Description

A proof-only variety, the 1953 Jefferson Nickel WDDR-001 displays Class II distorted hub doubling on E PLURIBUS UNUM, with the doubling effect increasing in intensity from left to right across the motto — weakest on the E and strongest on UNUM. This graduated spread pattern is characteristic of Class II doubling where the rotational pivot point lies to one side of the affected area, creating progressively greater displacement at increasing distance from the pivot. The obverse die markers include a die dot on Jefferson's neck above the collar and a die scratch below his nose, while the reverse carries a heavy die gouge positioned below OF in the motto.
