1951 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003

Description

Struck as a proof Lincoln Wheat Cent, the 1951 DDR-003 is cross-referenced as VarietyVista UVC-1794/DMR-010. Three die stages are documented: Stage A in Early Die State features a die gouge from the rim at approximately K4-K7 plus die scratches north of CENT, Stage B in Mid Die State remains unconfirmed, and Stage C in Late Die State is likewise unconfirmed. The reverse doubling manifests as medium spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM, wheat ears, and wheat stems — the secondary hub impression displaced these elements enough to create visible separation under magnification. The Stage A die gouge from the rim provides a useful diagnostic for confirming both variety and die state, as gouges of this type are fixed markers that narrow attribution to a specific working die. Proof Wheat Cents from 1951 were struck at Philadelphia for proof sets, and mirror-finish fields make the medium spread more conspicuous than comparable doubling on business strikes.
