Description
The 1950 Jefferson Nickel is a nickel from the Philadelphia Mint, belonging to the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. With a mintage of 9.8 million, this is a scarce issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 79% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. The 1950-D with a mintage of 2,630,030 is the key date of the post-war series. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792.
