Carrying VarietyVista's strongest spread designation of "Extreme," this 1944-S Washington Quarter DDR-001 displays pronounced extra thickness across all reverse lettering and the wreath. The S mintmark is the MMS-004 Ball serif style, a distinctive mintmark punch variety that adds die identification value beyond the doubling itself. Three die stages document this die's production life. Stages A and B at early and mid-die state remain unconfirmed, suggesting surviving examples concentrate in later strikes. Stage C is confirmed at late die state, where the obverse exhibits multiple die cracks: one running across the forehead and hair, a lighter crack in the hair above the forehead, and another light crack across the bust. These progressive cracks are characteristic of a die nearing the end of its service life and provide useful cross-die markers for attribution. Cataloged as UVC-0444 and DMR-009, this 90% silver wartime quarter represents one of the strongest doubled die reverses known for the mid-1940s Washington Quarter series.
