1943-S Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005

Description

Stage A: Die Markers: Obverse: The obverse of this variety is also a minor doubled die that is listed in the Wexler Files as 1943-S 1¢ WDDO-002. Stage A: Concentric die scratches above IN GOD WE. Die scratches run northwest in between the forehead and TRUST. Light die scratches run north to south through LIBERTY. No die crack is present above V.D.B. Stage B: Concentric die scratches above IN GOD WE are still present. A die crack runs from the rim at 6:00 through the base of the bust and back to the rim at 7:00 above V.D.B. Two parallel die scratches run north from the T of LIBERTY. Stage C: Concentric die scratches above IN GOD WE still visible but weaker. The die crack running from the rim at 6:00 through the base of the bust and back to the rim at 7:00 above V.D.B appears unchanged. Die scratches run north from the T of LIBERTY still visible. Multidirectional die scratches are present under the chin. Concentric scratches and large gouges, around and to the east of the ear. Reverse: Stage A: Multiple die scratches run through AMERICA. No die crack is present on the T in CENT. Stage B: A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE below the P in PLURIBUS. A die scratch runs NNW from the upper right N in CENT. A die scratch runs north through the R in AMERICA, between the S and T of STATES, ending below the N in CENT. A die scratch runs from NW to SE through the lower C in AMERICA. Die clash marks run from the E of ONE to the N in CENT, and between the lower C and E of CENT. Stage C: Die crack and chips on the base of the T in CENT. Die clash marks essentially polished away.
