1941 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-013

Description

Carrying attribution codes UVC-0179 and DMR-029, this 1941 Washington Quarter reverse doubled die shows a strong northward spread on the beak, the arrows, and the wreath — a uniform vertical offset consistent with a hub impression shifted slightly in the vertical axis. Three die stages are documented. Stage A is early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B, the late-middle die state, brings a light die crack across the upper hair on the obverse and the reverse entering its late-middle state. Stage C, the late die state, produces a die crack down the eagle's right wing (viewer's left) extending to the Q of QUARTER, and a second die crack across the bust. The directionality of the doubling — a uniform northward spread on beak, arrows, and wreath — leaves a parallel ghost impression offset upward from all affected design elements. The strong spread on the arrows makes this variety particularly attractive for display; arrow doubling on Washington Quarters is among the most photographed doubled die classes. The 1941 Washington Quarter was struck in 90% silver at Philadelphia.
