Description

Seventh documented doubled die reverse for the 1941 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent, WDDR-007 adds another entry to what has become one of the more thoroughly researched date-and-mint combinations in the Wheat Cent doubled die inventory. The mechanism behind all doubled die reverses is identical in principle: during die manufacture, a master hub must impress the working die in multiple passes to fully transfer the design, and any shift in alignment between those passes produces a die with doubled design elements. What distinguishes one DDR from another is the specific direction, magnitude, and class of the doubling — each reflecting a unique misalignment event during that particular die's creation.
