Description

Displaying medium extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both wheat ears and stems, and AMERICA, the 1941-D DDR-004 Lincoln Wheat Cent is cataloged by VarietyVista with codes UVC-1505 and DMR-016. While Stage A (early) and Stage B (mid) remain unconfirmed, Stage C in late die state is identified by a die crack running northeast through Lincoln's hair on the obverse — a prominent marker signaling the die was nearing retirement. The reverse also reaches late die state at this stage. The medium extra thickness classification places this between subtle light-spread examples and strong doubled dies, detectable under moderate magnification but not obvious unaided. Specimens showing both the doubled reverse elements and the hair crack can be attributed with confidence to this die pair.
