1941-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-002

Description

Extreme extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both wheat ears and stems, and AMERICA makes this 1941-D Lincoln wheat cent one of the strongest doubled die reverses in the early 1940s wheat cent series. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1504, DMR-014, the bold Class VI spread affects nearly every legend and design element across the reverse face. Three die stages are documented: Stage A remains unconfirmed at early die state; Stage B shows both reverse and obverse in mid-die state; and Stage C reaches late die state with a die chip on the lower T of CENT and a late-die-state obverse. The dramatic breadth of the doubling across E PLURIBUS UNUM, both wheat elements, and the AMERICA legend sets DDR-002 apart from the typically subtle spreads found on most wartime Lincoln cent varieties produced at the Denver Mint facility.
