Description
DDR-001 on the 1939 Washington Quarter is cataloged under die UVC-0100 / DMR-017. The doubling is a very light spread on the lower serifs of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Three progressive die stages are recorded: Stage C (LDS) adds strong die scratches through most rim letters, a die crack across the obverse bust, a crack across the forehead and hair, and numerous obverse die scratches — features useful for pinpointing die-state on known examples. The doubling is subtle and best observed under magnification on letter-serif terminations. The 1939 Washington Quarter is a 90% silver Philadelphia Mint issue. Stage C LDS coins are the most frequently encountered given the extended die life, and the LDS crack network provides reliable stage documentation.
