Wexler as 1939 WDDR-006, this Jefferson Nickel exhibits Class VI Distended Hub Doubling — a mechanism where the working hub expanded slightly during the impression process, causing the secondary image to appear larger than the primary and creating the characteristic "extra thickness" effect on design elements rather than the distinct secondary image separation seen in rotational or pivot doubling classes. Strong extra thickness is visible on E PLURIBUS UNUM, with slightly lesser thickness appearing on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE CENTS, establishing a gradient of doubling intensity across the reverse that corresponds to each element's distance from the geometric center of the hub distension. Obverse die markers include a die gouge positioned above the N of IN and a strong die gouge that extends above the star from the upper right tip of the Y in LIBERTY to the 1 in the date — a substantial linear marker that aids rapid field identification.
