1937-S Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

DDR-001 is the first catalogued doubled die reverse for the 1937-S Lincoln Wheat Cent, attributed by VarietyVista under die pair UVC-1399, DMR-009. The reverse exhibits light extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM and on the upper wheat ears. Die state progression covers three documented stages: Stage A is Early Die State; Stage B advances to a reverse Middle Die State and an obverse Late Die State, defined by die cracks appearing in the wheat grains, over the V.D.B. designer's initials, and in the hair — extensive cracking across multiple design elements; Stage C documents continued die deterioration. The progressive cracking from grains to V.D.B. to hair in Stage B represents a broad die failure pattern across the obverse.
