Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista with die marker codes UVC-1317 and DMR-005, the third doubled die reverse for the 1934 Lincoln Wheat Cent displays light spread on the upper left wheat stalk with extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM and the right wheat stalk. This dual-area presentation — light spread on one wheat ear combined with extra thickness on the opposite ear and on the motto inscription — indicates the hub displacement vector affected the reverse die asymmetrically, with varying intensity across different design zones. Three die stages are documented: Stage A represents Early Die State, unconfirmed. Stage B shows the reverse in Mid Die State, identified by a die crack running through V.D.B. (Victor David Brenner's initials at the bottom of the reverse) — a diagnostic marker that simultaneously confirms die stage and provides rapid visual identification for attributed specimens. Stage C corresponds to Late Die State, also unconfirmed. The 1934 Lincoln cent was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in bronze alloy (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc) at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm diameter, during the Depression era when cent production began recovering from the historically low mintages of the early 1930s.
