Description

Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1929 Indian Head Half Eagle is part of the Indian Head Half Eagles 1908-1929 series. Total mintage reached 662,000. The obverse features a Native American chief wearing a feathered headdress, designed in incuse (sunken) relief — a revolutionary departure from traditional raised relief coinage and the reverse displays a standing eagle on a bundle of arrows with an olive branch, in incuse (sunken) relief. Final year of the Indian Head Half Eagle after a long production hiatus. The Great Depression and gold hoarding ended the series.
