Description
A Gold Double Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1923 St. Gaudens Double Eagle belongs to the St. Gaudens Double Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 566,000, this is a less common issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty striding forward holding a torch and olive branch, with rays of sunlight behind her — widely considered the most beautiful U.S. coin design and the reverse displays a flying eagle with the rising sun behind it. Minted during and after World War I, as America emerged as a global power and experienced the prosperity of the Roaring Twenties. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $4.9K to $5.0K depending on grade and condition.
