Dramatic strong doubling on E PLURIBUS UNUM with light spread extending to OF AMERICA marks DDR-001 on the 1917-D Standing Liberty quarter. Hermon MacNeil's Standing Liberty design was in only its second year of production in 1917, and the Denver Mint issue is significant — 1917 saw both the Type 1 (bare breast) and Type 2 (chain mail) obverse variations, making precise identification of the obverse type important for full attribution. Strong-class doubling on the motto produces clearly visible secondary letter images detectable under low magnification, contrasting with the lighter spread on OF AMERICA that requires more careful examination.
