Description
The 1916 Barber Dime is a dime minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Barber Dimes 1892-1916 series. The U.S. Mint produced 18.5 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 76% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband and the reverse displays an agricultural wreath of corn, wheat, oak, and maple enclosing the words ONE DIME. The final year of the Barber Dime before the Mercury Dime replaced it. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $11 to $254 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 2.5 grams, 17.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4870.
