Description
The 1912 Liberty Head Nickel is a nickel produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Liberty Head Nickels 1883-1912 series. The U.S. Mint produced 26.2 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 75% of the year's production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a Roman numeral V (five) within a wreath of corn, cotton, and wheat. The 1912-D and 1912-S are the only Denver and San Francisco Mint issues in the entire series, both struck in the final year of regular production. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $3 to $154 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #3873.
